Storm Henk has caused extensive flooding and travel disruption across England due to heavy rainfall.
Flooding across England especially Nottinghamshire has declared a major incident and evacuated residents from hundreds of flooded homes.
A yellow warning for rain is in effect in southern England until 03:00 GMT on Friday according to the Met Office.
On Thursday evening, there were 259 flood warnings in England and 2 in Wales.
The heavy rainfall caused multiple train routes to close. Great Western Railway advised passengers not to travel and South Western Railway expected disruption to continue until “at least the end of the day.”
The Nottinghamshire County Council has declared a major incident due to the increasing levels of the River Trent. Based on the latest information, we expect the river to reach its peak either on Thursday evening or early Friday. The council has cautioned that the water levels could reach those recorded in the year 2000, which is the highest on record.
We advise residents living in areas prone to flooding to prepare for potential evacuation. Laurie Walker, chair of a Nottingham residents’ association for those over 55, described severe flooding outside their doors resembling a river.
Nottinghamshire County Council reports that flooding has affected over 100 properties in the area, with more expected tonight and tomorrow.
Parts of Worcestershire, Bedford, Northamptonshire, Shropshire, Gloucestershire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, North Yorkshire and Sussex have also been submerged.
As of 10:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time, there were 259 active flood warnings in much of England and two in Wales, indicating an expectation of flooding. Additionally, there were 338 flood alerts active in England and Wales, indicating the possibility of flooding.
